The Country Store offers low-priced clothing and household items to the community. Its profits support the Family Service Agency.

Roy Talbot serves on the Family Service Agency Guild, and many of our people volunteer there, including Margaret Pasteris, Barb Grulke, and Penny Rosenow.
  CROP Walk – October 5, 2008
Recruiters needed to sign up walkers. Recruiter’s Rally will be August 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the dining room.

  Baby Layettes
Knit or crochet infant sweaters. Sweaters will be given to the First Congregational Church to be included in their Layette Program for disadvantaged mothers. Easy knitting and crocheting patterns are available.

  Hope Haven Homeless Shelter - Children's Program
Reading to children, arts and crafts, or activities for outdoors.

  DeKalb County Hospice
Serve people in the dying process - and their families.

  Meals on Wheels
Deliver meals one or two times during the month of May to help fulfill the church’s commitment. There is a special need for volunteers who are able to climb flights of stairs.

Substitutes are needed throughout the year to deliver the meals when a scheduled volunteer has to cancel.

  Neighbors’ House - Tutoring
Neighbors’ House is a not-for-profit, faith-based, community development organization partnering with DeKalb students and families to help them fulfill their God-given potential for academic and relational success.  Summer Refresher, math & reading with middle school students. Mornings at Neighbor’s House. Summer Reading Vacation, elementary age literacy
activities. Evening, 1 week program, location TBA.

  Volunteer with Residents of Oak Crest (Older Adults)
Volunteers are needed to provide entertainment, letter writing, reading to people with low vision, gardening, nail painting, etc.

Service Opportunities at First UMC
  Communion set up for Traditional Worship and SHINE Services
Buys communion bread and sets up elements for 9 a.m. and cleans up afterwards; buys bread for SHINE and delivers to Fellowship Hall that morning.

  Parking Ministry
Adult and youth volunteers assist parishioners with crossing 4th Street. Adult volunteers valet park for those who are not able to walk long distances.

  Bread Ministry
Deliver homemade bread to first time visitors.

  CrossRoads (Rotational Sunday School Program)
Adult and youth volunteers needed for various areas including Early Education Sunday School Teacher or Assistant; Substitute Sunday School Teacher; Shepherd (guides a group of children to their workshop each week); Substitute Shepherd; Workshop Leader; Workshop Assistant; Curriculum Team; Materials, Props, Teaching Tools, and Set-up Team; or Prayer Circle.
